When and how did you get into derby?
Summer of 2013; a friend of mine does derby in California. It looked like a lot of fun, plus I was looking for a new physical activity.
How much of your time would you say you dedicate to roller derby (or roller derby related activities) in an average week?
I dedicate about 6-10 hours on average, though more if I'm am Reffing or working a tournament!
What kind of athletic experience did you have before getting involved with roller derby?
Very little- I was not an athlete in school. I did yoga, but nothing as physical as roller derby.
What's the most meaningful lesson you've learned from roller derby?
You can come back from a major setback and become better than you were before. A lesson I learned after breaking an ankle- twice!
What advice would you give to a new skater?
Make sure that you get up more times than you fall down.
Why is being a Middle Georgia Derby Demon important to you?
I get to be a part of a group of amazing people who put their heart and soul into this sport that we love. The camaraderie and support for each other is something you don't find anywhere else.
What's on your bout day/practice playlist?
Techno, industrial, dance, heavy metal, rap- a little bit of everything!
Who's your derby idol and why?
Harry Spotter- he has been a jam ref at World Champs and his skating skills are incredible.
Favorite post-bout/practice meal?
Zaxby's Chicken and fries with their Zax sauce
Hobbies outside of roller derby?
Knitting and crochet, plus spending time with my dog Bowie
