Secret Identity: "Allie Patrick"

What's your day job?

I am a mom and I spend many sleepless hours grading English papers.

When and how did you get into derby?

After our daughter started Junior Derby we found out about the boot camps. I tried it out and I knew I needed more Derby in my life!

How much of your time would you say you dedicate to roller derby (or roller derby related activities) in an average week?

So much time! If I'm not working, sleeping, or being a mom I am doing something derby related whether it's practice, skating for fun with friends, or volunteering for bouts and tournaments. Who am I kidding? I definitely dream about derby and more often than not my kids are with me while I do derby related things!

What kind of athletic experience did you have before getting involved with roller derby?

I grew up surfing and skateboarding, running track and cross country, and dancing (mostly Hula).

What's the most meaningful lesson you've learned from roller derby?

I have learned that I am stronger than I ever imagined.

What advice would you give to a new skater?

There will be days when you feel like you haven't improved any, but you have. Patience and hard work go a long way. As long as you come back and keep trying, you will improve.

Why is being a Middle Georgia Derby Demon important to you?

I have gained so much confidence just by being a Demon. The support and friendships make me proud to be a part of such an amazing group of people!

What's one thing you wish everyone understood about this sport?

We are athletes. We work hard to be stronger, faster, and better at what we do.

What's on your bout day/practice playlist?

It really depends on my mood, but mostly rock.

Favorite post-bout/practice meal?

Eggs with lots of veggies mixed in, potatoes, sausage or bacon, and orange juice!
